About AGRAGAMEE

Agragamee, which means, “pioneer”, is a group of activists and thinkers committed to working for and with the poorest and most marginalised communities for their empowerment, and self-reliance in India. Our approach of ‘food and voice’ seeks to initiate a people-centred development which combines a rights-based approach with programmes for socio-economic development.

Agragamee started work in the Kashipur block of Rayagada District in 1981 as the Social Work & Research Centre (Orissa) was registered separately as Agragamee in April 1987. It currently works directly in ten districts of Orissa and indirectly in some more through a consortium of partner-NGOs. It is amongst Orissa’s most well-known and respected NGOs.

Agragamee has attempted to work with the people to empower them through awareness, means, rights, skills and opportunities necessary to check their exploitation and to sustainably manage their natural resource base.
