CESVI was established in the year 1985 in Bergamo, Italy. The acronym stands for ‘cooperation and development’. Cesvi believes strongly that helping the underprivileged in developing countries, or those in difficulty due to war, natural calamities and environmental disasters, does not help only those who suffer, but contributes also to the well-being of all of us on the planet, our “common home” that needs to be looked after for the sake of future generations. Cesvi is a member of Alliance 2015, a partnership of six like-minded non-government organizations working in the field of development cooperation. The other Alliance members are Concern from Ireland, Deutsche Welthungerhilfe from Germany, Hivos from the Netherlands, ACTED from France, Helvetas from Switzerland and Ibis from Denmark and People in need from the Czech Republic.
Cesvi in India has experience of having projects in partnership with various donors and implementing organizations. The current EU project is implemented by the partner Rural Literacy and Health Programme (RLHP) who has the registered office in Mysore. The field area covers 5 backward districts (Bidar, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Gulbarga and Raichur) of Karnataka.

Cesvi mission to people in need around the world can be divided into three main categories:
– Immediate help to ensure survival and to overcome emergencies;
– The rehabilitation and reconstruction of systems destroyed by war or natural calamities;
– Cooperation programs and projects for the development of underprivileged social groups and poor communities.
EMPOWERING PEOPLE IN FIVE BACKWARD DISTRICTS OF KARNATAKA TO ACCESS THE PUBLIC SCHEMES
Objectives of the action
Overall objective: to mobilize, educate and empower the marginalized communities to improve access, utilize and monitor public schemes for poverty alleviation.
Specific objectives: to ensure the maximum utilization of all centrally sponsored public schemes in the selected five backward districts of Karnataka.
Target group
PRI authorities covering five districts: 100 members.
Community members (Adults, Women, Youth and children population) of the selected villages in the 5 districts of Karnataka: 1,50,000 (Adults-54,920, women-52,700, youth-25,000, Children-17,380)
Members of BRGF monitoring committees, NGOs, media, District and State level authorities: 200 members.

The communities of the 5 districts targeted by the Action: 1,50,000 people

- 330 People were made to apply for Job Cards out of which 100 People received the Cards
- 3 People received old age pension
- Bus Service brought in 1 Village, Road was constructed in 3 Villages and Power connection was brought in 1 Village
- 1 Differently abled person received pension
- 8 Child labourers released and sent back to school and 48 Drop out students mainstreamed in schools
- Guest teachers were appointed in 5 Government schools
- 1 New Anganwadi was sanctioned for Schedule Caste colony, and Nutrition programme was made functional in 7 Anganwadis
- Water connection was brought in for 1 Anganwadi and 1 Toilet was constructed for an Anganwadi
- 1 Water tank was constructed for a village
- 80 individual toilets were constructed by households and 25 Individual Toilets were Sanctioned
- 1 Child marriage was stopped

• Under MGNREGA Scheme, 1247 applications have been given to get job cards. Out of which 616 job cards were received and 44 days of work was provided
• Under TSC, 1281 Applications were given to construct individual toilets, of which 545 were sanctioned and 380 toilets were constructed in the five working districts of the project
• 231 Applications were registered under Vajpayee Arogyashree Schemes across the 5 districts
• 65 individual drinking water taps were provided by Gram Panchayat at Mincheri village of Raichur District
• 8 malnutrition children received special nutritional care with eggs and nuts across the 5 districts
• A health camp was organized in collaboration with the Health department where 239 people have registered their names under Vajpayee Arogyashri Scheme. 5 people from Gollarahalli village of Chitradurga district have got benefit from this scheme and 1 person got benefited from Partapur village of Bidar district
• 3 TB Patients were identified and treatment was arranged for them at Neemahosahalli and BhaviThanda villages in Gulbarga district
• At Mincheri village of Raichur district, 17 mothers received ‘Mother Card’ under JSY (JananiSurakshaYojana) Scheme
• At Halbhavi village of Raichur district, the PHC was reopened after 12 years and ANM was appointed
• 79 Dropout children were enrolled back in Schools across the 5 working districts
• 1 School compound was constructed at Boodipura village of Chitradurga district
• As an impact of Demand Driven Skill building training in Davangere, 3 children got facilities from Balasanjeevini scheme at Kamaraghatte and Neralagundi villages
• At Khandal Village of Bidar district 2 old age pension and 1 differently abled pension process were initiated at the Tahalsidar office
• At Halenahalli village of Chitradurga district support was given to a physically challenged boy to get his Disability Certificate
• Five houses have been sanctioned under Indira Awas Yojane at Gollarahalli village of Chitradurga district
• Rs.1,20,000 has been sectioned by the Animal Husbandry Department for self-employment at Boodipura village of Chitradurga district
• 14 Community members got Karnataka building sanctioned and other construction workers got identity cards at Boodipura village of Chitradurga district
• As an impact of Demand Driven Skill building training in Davangere: 10 members applied for Rajiv Gandhi Chaitanya Yojana (Self employment for youth) at Guddehalli GP and 10 members applied for Ashraya Yojana (housing scheme) and 3 members got the housing facility at Masadi Panchayat
• As an impact of Skill building training in Davangere, 10 members applied for NRLM at Bevinahalli and Gollaralli villages and it is in process
• 118 people received the Ration cards in Degalmadi, Ainoli and Neemahosahalli villages of Gulbarga district
• A concrete road was sanctioned and work is in process at Kommarenahalli village of Chitradurga district and a concrete road was laid in Mincheri Village of Raichur District
• 2 Child marriages were stopped at Khashiram Thanda village of Gulbarga district
• As an impact of the awareness and the trainings given, BRSSG members were motivated and empowered to contest in the 2015 Gram Panchayat elections. As a result, 70 BRSSG members won the election out of which 38 are women
