WHH is a non-profit making organisation. It is run by a board of honorary members under the patronage of the Federal Republic of Germany. Welthungerhilfe is devoted to improving Food and Nutrition Security in the world. Together with Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia remains most affected by hunger and poverty, continues to be one of the focus regions of Welthungerhilfe.The South Asia Regional Office is based in Delhi, and manages projects in the countries of India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. In South Asia, over past 50 years Welthungerhilfe has supported around 1000 rural development projects in partnership with local development organizations, who work with the most vulnerable and marginalized people.

Mission

The guiding theme of our wok is “ Helping people,help themselves” also extends emergency situations such as natural disasters or civil war, where those affected are steadily helped to assume responsibility for their lives.

The project “Initiative for transparent and accountable governance systems in Jharkhand” is going to be implemented in the 4 most backward district of Jharkhand i.e. Sahibganj, Dumka, Pakur and Khunti. Out of 17 states, Jharkhand ranks 16 in the Indian State Hunger Index. The historical marginalization and persistent exclusion of tribal and dalit communities has reduced faith in public service delivery system. We will be able to reach directly to more than 3,81,000 people through this project over the period of 5 years.

Objectives

Overall

To contribute to social inclusion and reduced poverty through improved public services and programmes in selected districts of Jharkhand, India.

Specific

• Improved quality, coverage and access to information regarding public services in education, health & nutrition and rural employment in four Blocks of Jharkhand
• Innovative processes and best practices that address key constraints in information delivery, service provision and empowerment of self-governance bodies are successfully standardized, demonstrated and replicated by state and district-level authorities or service providers.

Target Group

• Service providers – teachers and headmasters of 348 primary schools, 110 middle schools; Health Activists (ASHAs) & Auxiliary Nurse and Midwifes (ANMs) of 92 Health sub-centres, staff of 10 Public Health Centres and 681 Centres of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) and staff of line departments
• Self-governance bodies – 76 Panchayats, 348 School Management Committees (SMCs) and 76 Village Health and Sanitation Committees (VHSCs),
